Wine has been found to help reduce the risk of skin damage

We've been given the perfect excuse why we need more wine in our diets - this is a cause for celebration - best hurry up and crack open a bottle then.

Spanish scientists have found substances in grapes that protect skin cells from Ultraviolet (UV) damage.

These rays emitted by the sun after the leading cause for premature ageing, sun burn and even skin cancer.

As you can imagine, cosmetics companies are already hard at work creating creams and pills that copy the process - but what's the point in spending that money on creams when you get all the goodness from a bottle of wine?

The University of Barcelona and the Spanish National Research Council looked at the chemical reaction in the skin when hit by UV rays from the sun.

They found that flavonoids in the grapes can stop the chemical reaction that causes cells to die and therefore skin damage.

Tomatoes have previously been proven to help reduce the risk sunburn.
