Will you be taking part in Race for Life this year?

Cancer Research UK is urging women to stand together and unite against cancer this summer by signing up to take part in the 20th anniversary of Race for Life.

The women who take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life are a powerful collective force against cancer.  And to mark the 20th year, the charity is inviting all women to gather their friends and family and sign up to join this formidable army and hit cancer where it really hurts.

Women can take on cancer at Race for Life by walking, running or jogging at 5k events throughout the UK. Those wanting a bigger challenge can take on the 10k routes or sign up to the new Race for Life event Pretty Muddy, a 5k obstacle course where women can climb, jog and walk all over cancer.

Everyone taking part in Race for Life has their own story, whether they are taking part to celebrate their own or a loved one’s battle against cancer, or to remember those who have bravely fought. By uniting in their common goal women across the UK will raise vital funds for research to save more lives and help beat cancer sooner.

Emma Hyatt, Head of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, said: “Cancer sadly affects us all and has taken too many loved ones from us. Its impact is devastating, but together we can prove we are stronger than cancer!

“We want all women from across the UK, regardless of their age, shape or fitness level, to unite against cancer and walk, run or jog at Race for Life this summer.  We’d also love to see as many family and friends showing their support by sponsoring, cheering on or volunteering on the day.

“Research will beat cancer one day.  Every step taken and every pound raised at Race for Life will help to fund our life-saving research into all 200 types of cancer. Our aim is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured and by encouraging all women to join the fight at Race for Life, we hope we can make that day come sooner.”

Over the past 20 years, more than 7 million women have taken part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, raising over £526 million to fund the charity’s life-saving work.  But it does not stop there. In 2014 Cancer Research UK hopes that Race for Life will raise £50 million so that it can keep on fighting until cures for all 200 types of cancer are found.
