Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell has so far enjoyed a career that has spanned nearly fifteen years bringing him a whole host of roles from the war movie, to the big budget blockbuster to the movie independent project.

This week sees him return to the big screen, in his first movie since Ondine, as he joins forces with Keira Knightley for London Boulevard.

So to celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at some of the best movies of Farrell’s career so far.

- Tigerland

This war movie, which was directed by Joel Schumacher, was the role where Colin Farrell really caught everyone’s eye as he starred as troublesome draftee Roland Boz.

A group of recruits go through Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Polk, Louisiana's infamous Tigerland, last stop before Vietnam for tens of thousands of young men in 1971.

Despite being a Vietnam movie the film never leaves the United States and instead chooses to follow the training of U.S. troops before they are shipped abroad.

It’s a great central performance from Farrell as Boz, who is against the war and has no respect for authority - and it kicked off his Hollywood career.

- Minority Report

Just two years later and Farrell was starring in a Hollywood blockbuster as he was cast in Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report alongside Tom Cruise.

The movie was a big screen adaptation of the short story by Philip K. Dick and saw Farrell take on the role of Danny Witwer, a cocky Department of Justice agent.

In the future, criminals are caught before the crimes they commit, but one of the officers in the special unit is accused of one such crime and sets out to prove his innocence.

The movie was a huge critical and commercial success when it was released in 2002, taking over $358 million at the global box office.

And while Farrell would go on to have a quick succession of high profile and big budget roles none would be as successful as Minority Report.

- In Bruges

In 2008 Farrell left the big budget movies behind for the black comedy as he joined an all star cast of Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes in In Bruges.

Holed up in Bruges, Belgium after a difficult job, two hit men begin to differ on their views of life and death as they become used to local customs.

In Bruges, despite its graphic violence, is a funny movie, as well as some very heart-warming moments as Farrell tips his hat to another genre.

It’s a first rate performance from the actor who really shows his versatility with this performance.

- The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Colin Farrell, along with Johnny Depp and Jude Law, took over the lead role of Tony when Heath Ledger dies during filming in a bid to get the movie completed and on the big screen.

What worked well for the movie is the seamless transition between the four actors throughout the film - hard to believe that it was a last minute adjustment.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a movie that you should just sit back and enjoy as it will transport to another world like no other movie last year.

 - Crazy Heart

It may have been a supporting role for Farrell in Crazy Heart earlier this year, starring alongside Jeff Bridges; who went on to win a Best Actor Oscar for his performance, but it was a fine one none the less.

A faded country music musician is forced to reassess his dysfunctional life during a doomed romance that also inspires him.

Farrell stars as young country singer Tommy Sweet in the movie and his duet with Bridges is one of the musical highlights of the movie - who knew he could actually sing?

London Boulevard is released 26th November
