Peter Berg has revealed that he found the reaction of the casting of Rihanna in Battleship 'quite amusing'.

The music superstar is set to make her big screen debut next week as she takes on the role of Petty Officer Cora Raikes in the action blockbuster.

And Berg admits that he has enjoyed being able to prove people wrong with Rihanna's performance in the film.

Speaking to The Press Association the filmmaker said: "There was a certain inherent in the film intelligentsia that clutter certain internet sites, the idea that Rihanna was going to be in a movie was the most scandalous decision ever made and I found that quite amusing.

"People thought that Rihanna was going to be in a bikini, running around a navy ship with a machine gun, which couldn't be further from the truth.

"She does a wonderful job of playing just a regular sailor, and she's really good in it. I've enjoyed having some of the sceptics see the film, and admit to me, 'She was really great'."

This is the first movie outing for Berg since the success of Hancock have worked in TV for the last couple of years.

The director brings together a great cast for the movie as Rihanna is joined by Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård and Brooklyn Decker.

Battleship is released 11th April.
