The Cinematics

The Cinematics have been busy boys today, but being the lovely fellows they are, Scott, Larry, Adam and Ross have taken the time out to answer the questions you sent in.

Take a look below and see what they had to say to you, but don’t worry if you can’t see your question, as there will be more coming throughout the afternoon.

Hi!

Could you ask the band what was the best place they got to see in Europe?

Thanks. Jess. X

Rome, for certain. One of our Italian gigs was cancelled on the last tour, as the venue had its license revoked, meaning that we had to spend an extra day walking around Rome, visiting the Coliseum, the Vatican and the Pantheon. Then we went for some delicious Roman cuisine. Good times. Ross

Hey guys! Why did you choose the name Love and Terror for the album? Is there a concept behind the album?
Cheers,
Pat

I wouldn’t say there was a concept, as such, but there is definitely a continuing theme. We wrote these songs during an uncertain time for the band- our record company had just went bankrupt and times were tough for us. The songs are basically about our struggle to make our way during this time and we thought Love and Terror best encapsulated this, as a title. Larry

Does one of you still have that pink shoe from the OK Go/Brendan Benson tour circa 2005??

I still have mine :oD

There’s a huge cupboard in my flat and there is a good chance the shoe will be buried in there, under a small mountain of Cds, clothes and other random articles amassed on tour. Scott

Although ALL of The Cinematics look sexy, Larry was looking really, REALLY good at the gig in Berlin, is he single per chance? Mareike. X

Thanks awfully, Mareike, you’re too kind by far. However, I have a girlfriend. The other boys could be fair-game though… Larry

Hi there,

Do you have any plans to tour the UK sometime soon?

Cheers and have fun,
Sophie x

We’re bound to be doing a full UK tour before the end of the year. Until now we seem to have been distracted by America and Europe, but perhaps we’ll remedy that soon. Adam

Hey there,

When and why did you decide to make music together?=)

cheers x

Scott, Ross and Adam all went to school together, and so have known each other since they were aged six. Scott was the best singer, Ross was the best drummer and Adam was the best bass-player in the area, so it seemed only natural, I guess. Larry

A Strange Education really is one of my favourite albums of all time and changed my view on how music should be written.

To each member of the band:

Which three albums do you think changed the way you feel about music?

Ross: Are You Experienced, by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Staring at the Sea, by the Cure. OK Computer, by Radiohead.

Larry: Hatful of Hollow, by the Smiths. Pyschocandy, by the Jesus and Mary Chain. Loveless, by My Bloody Valentine.

Adam: Thriller, by Michael Jackson. Speaking in Tongues, by Talking Heads. What’s Going On, by Marvin Gaye

Scott: In Rainbows, by Radiohead. Odelay, by Beck. Ocean Rain, by Echo and the Bunnymen

Cheers, Frankie

Hello.
Your songs have really touching and unique lyrics and I just want to ask, what ispires you the most to write them?
Thank you for your answer.
Greetings from Lithuania.

It varies from one song to another. Often the lyrics I write are quite oblique and expressive, but on Love and Terror they’re all very straight-forward and earnest, as that was how we felt at the time. Larry

Hi Scott, Larry, Adam and Ross

Each one of you, what is your most annoying habit?

Ross spends hours and hours in the shower. Adam has murderous impulses every day before noon, like a Gremlin in reverse. Scott throws his smelly socks at people. Larry has a habit of delaying gigs as he seems to need the toilet at inopportune moments.

What was your weirdest and best gig so far and why?

The last gig was the best and I think the next one will be very weird! Adam
