Lil Boosie has vowed to tackle his drug addictions while serving eight years behind bars.
The hip-hop star was sentenced to the stint on Tuesday after he confessed to attempting to smuggle codeine syrup into jail on three separate occasions while serving time for a previous drug and gun possession charge.
He asked a judge to send him to a rehab facility, but the court officials decided to incorporate treatment as part of his prison sentence.
Now Boosie - who is due to stand trial for a first-degree murder charge in March - is determined to use his incarceration to finally overcome his drug demons.
He tells TMZ in a statement: "Don't worry about me, I am getting help with my drug addiction and I am accepting full responsibility for the choice I made."
He adds about his impending trial: "I am going to fight the false murder charge 'til the end."
The rapper is accused of hiring hitmen to kill Terry Boyd in October 2009.
