Glee

Glee

Glee is fast becoming all the nation can talk about on a Monday and Tuesday, and I imagine I’m the envy of quite a few people having the Glee : The Music album in my hands a whopping three weeks before it’s released.

To be honest though, I can’t really share I that excitement as I’ve never actually watched Glee… I did intend to watch it, but it was on at the same time as Celebrity Big Brother, and I’d already committed to that, so I couldn’t just abandon it halfway through. Plus I don’t have that fancy Sky+ either, so yes, I’m one of the few who have missed out.

If anyone wants to send me a DVD of everything I’ve missed though, that would be great, as the songs on here have had me dancing around the office for the majority of this morning. Much to my bosses distaste.

Okay ,so everyone knows I’m not really a fan over cover versions, I don’t don’t what it is, I just never think they live up to the original, so having the Glee cast covering songs like Don’t Stop Believing and Queen classic Somebody To Love does make me a bit grumpy, but the rest of the album doesn’t half make up for it.

My real passion in life is dancing in musicals, and although I have sold my soul to journalism now and don’t bring out the jazz hands very much, I still love a bit of the old over-dramatic songs ripped off for the audience’s pleasure.

In their defence though, this is the best covers album I’ve ever heard, and I imagine it will be a definite grower for me as I begin to associate the songs with the cast and not the likes of Rihanna and Kanye West - their cover of Golddigger is amazing. In fact, a lot of the songs on here are bloody awesome, take No Air, Hate On Me and two of my favourite songs of all time, Keep Holding On and Alone.

The only thing that lets’ this album down is the fact that the press release states the cast covered Rehab, and I can’t seem to find it on here, and I really can’t stand You Keep Me Hangin’ On (even the original) so I skipped over that as well!

So, that’s what I think - OST’s always do okay, but with the success this case have had already, I can see this hitting the top 10 UK album charts on the week of release. Much deserved too.

In the meantime, how would you like to meet the cast of Glee?
