Linden visits his wife Olivia’s grave to lay flowers. He is angry to find graffiti on her gravestone, along with others. He tries to clean it up, but has no luck. Arriving at work late, Mark smugly tells him he has missed the morning management meeting and that he is late for his ward round. Linden, clearly flustered, gets straight to it.

Lady Byrne has resigned from the Byrne Foundation and has gone on a world cruise. Jayne Grayson offers Michael the position and he accepts. He goes to speak to Elliott about his new role and Elliot is shocked to discover that Lady Byrne has left. He is clearly upset by the news but Michael overlooks this and asks him for help. Elliott declines and makes a hasty exit, while Connie is left feeling bitter that Michael was offered the position and not her.

Since Jac’s bike crash, she has come out of ITU and been moved to HolbyCare under Elliott’s management. However, he has a lot on and asks Joseph to attend to her. Joseph does not want to but Elliot insists. Joseph goes to see Jac and is put out by her questions about South Africa. He puts her straight about Faye and takes pride in telling her Faye is not actually married, but divorced. Jac tells him she is pleased that it is good news, but she still obviously wants to know more.

Michael finds Elliot asleep at his desk and thinks he is taking on too much. He convinces Elliot to lessen his workload by asking Connie to take over his role as Medical Advisor for the Byrne Foundation; Connie agrees. Having cleared time, Elliot sees to Jac’s results and awaits news on if she needs a lung operation. Joseph is certain that if she does, he does not want to assist in the operation. Elliot tells him he might have too.

Still having no luck with cleaning his wife’s grave, Linden continues to get frustrated at work. Daisha and Maddy attend to one of his patients, Liam Harris, a dancer who has just got his big break in theatre. He has an incarcerated hernia, which needs an operation. Linden decides to operate on AAU, even though Mark points out that the theatre facility isn’t equipped with a laporoscopic stack. Mark doesn’t think it is a good idea.

Jac continues to dig further for information and find out what happened between Faye and Joseph in South Africa. Elliot eventually puts her straight telling her it’s really neither of their business. When Joseph attends to her she tries to have a heart to heart with him, telling him she really is sorry for everything that went wrong between them. Joseph accepts her apology, so she uses this opportunity to declare she isn’t apologising for following Faye. She admits that she had wanted to, and that he wouldn’t have found out about Lucas if it weren’t for her. He tells her it is still none of her business, but they did get engaged. He tells her that this is a secret, and one that she promises to keep.

Taking a more caring approach to Jac, Joseph arranges for her to be at the top of the CT scan list. After doing so, Jac refuses the scan; she doesn’t want to jump in front of waiting patients, as it is not fair. Convincing Joseph she has changed even more, he is taken in by her kindness. He agrees to assist on her operation if need be.

Meanwhile, as Linden prepares for Liam’s operation, he discovers he is missing his wife’s silver locket on a chain. He put it in his drawer, but it has now disappeared. Having to get on with their work, Maddy assists an even more frustrated Linden on Liam’s operation. Linden becomes annoyed with Maddy’s banter with anaesthetist Jamie, and then gets even more annoyed by her comments that he is taking too many risks and it could be dangerous. Linden loses his temper with her and angrily tells her to get out, making her leave the theatre in the middle of a procedure. With shocked assistants surrounding him, Linden carries on operating alone. Unfortunately a complication occurs and a bleed starts. They can’t stop the bleed and Linden refuses to call CT like Jamie suggests, continuing to operate alone. After many failed attempts of resuscitation, Liam dies.

After refusing the CT scan, Elliot and Joseph rush to Jac as she is having difficulties breathing. They discover a pneumothormax and immediately insert a chest drain, but it fills with blood due to a intercostal artery bleed. They rush her straight into theatre and Elliot operates with Joseph’s assistance. They manage to stabilise her and are content that Jac will be ok.

Jac is relieved to hear that she’s in the clear. She uses the opportunity to ask Joseph something she knows she has know right to ask – she wants his forgiveness. Joseph pauses, but tells her he’s not there yet, but getting there. Jac is left looking sly and triumphant.

Linden is left distraught after Liam dies. Technically he shouldn’t have, and Linden has no explanation for it. His mood is lightened slightly when Mark returns Olivia’s silver locket. Nurse Jackson and Maddy had caught an opportunist thief with it. He returns to his wife’s grave to clean it and lay his flowers. He is surprised to discover it has already been cleaned and left with new fresh flowers and a teddy.
