Ric receives a letter telling him he has to clear Leo’s flat of his belongs. He has been putting this off for weeks as he can’t face seeing how Leo lived his life while on drugs. Lola talks him into going and he wanders around the flat picking up items that had sentimental value for them both. He is appalled that Leo could have lived like this.

Lola arrives at her new job as a medical adviser at a psychiatric hospital. She is amazed by how nice the new place is as she has her own office and can even use the hospital’s money to buy paintings. As she is given a tour of the building she notices a familiar face in the gardens – Abra who has been there for the past month. Abra is pleased to see Lola but only really starts talking when she brings up Kyla’s name. Abra’s therapist, Elizabeth introduces herself to Lola and Lola explains that she and Abra use to be old colleagues at Holby City.

Meanwhile, Ric is putting belongs into bags and cleaning the flat when he hears someone enter the kitchen. Ric is confronted by Tom, a friend of Leo’s who says that he is looking after the flat and he offers to help sort Leo’s belongs out. Ric doesn’t want him there as he wants to be on his own but Tom insists on telling him stories of Leo and, as Ric wants to know more about Leo’s life, he agrees.

Lola sees her first patient, Alex, a young girl who has problems and self harms. She tells Lola that she and Abra are in love but later we see Alex visit Abra and he has no interest in her – they played chess together once, and now she won’t leave him alone.

Ric and Tom sort through Leo’s flat as Ric asks questions about Leo. Tom explains that Leo had been off drugs for more than a year and had accidently overdosed after a split with his girlfriend. He also explains that while off drugs he was working for a drop-in centre where he was helping others like himself. Ric looks surprised and almost proud that Leo’s drug addiction had led to him helping others. Tom offers to show Ric the drop-in centre and meet with some of the people he had helped.

Lola tries to find out more about Abra’s progress from Elizabeth who informs her that ‘Percy’ isn’t ready to leave yet. She knows more about him than anyone else as she is his mother. Lola, believing that Elizabeth is keeping Abra there for her own benefit, calls Kyla to tell her where Abra is.

Ric sees the centre were Leo worked and his colleagues tell him that he was a great man who really wanted to help people. Ric is starting to see Leo in a totally new light.

Kyla turns up at the hospital where Elizabeth isn’t sure that it’s healthy for Abra to see her, but it is up to him. He decides he does want to and they both light up as they see each other. Abra asks why she hasn’t replied to any of his letters and Kyla explains that he hadn’t put his address on any of them. She read every one, and was incredibly touch by each of them.

Meanwhile, Ric takes Tom out to lunch as he wants to thank him for telling him about Leo. Afterwards Ric and Tom say goodbye and Tom quickly rushes off. Ric notices he has left his telephone at Leo’s flat and as he picks it up hears someone in the flat. He opens the door to see Tom about to inject heroin. Ric grabs the needle out of his hand knocks the heroin on the floor. Tom desperate for a fix attacks Ric, but Ric grabs him and slams him against the wall. Tom has lied to him and Ric asks him if he has lied about Leo. Tom tells him that he was still on drugs and he hated Ric. A devastated Ric kicks Tom out of the flat and just wants to leave the flat and get away from the mess he feels he has created.

Kyla and Abra walk around the gardens as he explains how he thinks his treatment has cured him. Kyla tries to talk Abra into returning to Holby City but he doesn’t feel that he could do that. Nor does he think that he could stay at the hospital with his mother.

Alex hears that Kyla is visiting Abra, and confronts Abra. Abra doesn’t say anything and Alex runs off and is nowhere to be found. Lola, Abra and Kyla find her hiding in a summer house where she has slit her wrists. Lola and Abra try to stop the bleeding as Alex whispers ‘I love you’ to Abra. Lola stops the bleeding and she is taken away by paramedics.

Ric leaves the flat and is met by a young woman who tells him that she wanted to thank him for Leo. Leo had got her off drugs and now has a happy family. This means a lot to Ric after the day he has had. Although confused Ric now knows that there was a point in Leo’s time at the centre were he did help others and he seems to be happy knowing this.

Lola and Kyla talk to Abra about his future, Abra is unsure of what he wants to do, he definitely doesn’t want to go back to Holby, but would like to return to Africa. Abra asks Kyla to come with him but she can’t, she has Max to look after. Lola realises that her new job isn’t right for her and decides to leave with him. Just as they are about to leave Ric appears. He and Abra sort out their differences and say their goodbyes before Lola and Abra leave for Africa.
