Jayne Grayson bursts through doors, running through corridors- her son Christian has been brought to Holby after being found in a river. He’s extremely cold, there’s no cardio activity and he’s not breathing. Linden is first to help and announces that they need to warm up the body and that if he is lucky his body functions will start again. The AAU are sceptical as he could have been in the water for hours. Linden says the first thing they need to do is put the boy on cardiopulmonary bypass – he pages Connie.

Kyla arrives back at work trying to figure out who had been hiding the letters from Abra from her. She first accuses Donna who is offended but finally Maddy confronts Kyla telling her that she did it to protect her. Kyla can’t believe Maddy would try to ruin her chances of seeing Abra but she forgives her as she had good intentions and Maddy would never deliberately hurt her.

Jayne bursts through the theatre doors and comes face to face with Christian, not quite believing what has happened to him. Linden explains what he plans to do and Jayne gives him complete control to do anything to save him. Jayne’s husband arrives and throws his arms around her at which point Connie enters the theatre and sees them together. She is dismayed as Jayne’s husband is John – the man she has been seeing in secret – and for once in her life she is knocked for six. She is heartbroken but Linden needs her to get involved in saving Christian’s life. She pulls herself together and blanks John as if she’s never met him before. She rolls up her sleeves to get involved but Connie wants to be straight with Jayne – what Linden is suggesting is completely untried and untested. Connie and Linden both look at Jayne for an answer and she says that she is happy for Linden to do whatever he needs to save her son’s life.

Faye and Joseph have had a romantic night together and the day afterwards Joseph notices Faye taking the morning after pill. But there’s something about the way that he responds to her frankness that worries Faye.

Chrissie returns to Holby for treatment on her scar. Michael is to operate to reduce the scar tissue but as Chrissie is brought into the theatre she freaks out as she realises it is the same one in which she was attacked. Smashing equipment to the floor she runs out. Realising the problem Michael talks her back into a new theatre and she agrees to be operated on.

Connie and Linden fight to get Christian’s heart beating- it’s not looking good as the police say he has been in the water for over six hours. Connie tries to concentrate but her emotions get the better of her, she tries to blame her feelings on how she felt about Grace’s accident, but she is clearly devastated over John. He tries to talk to her she can’t believe she has cheated on one of her colleagues. John tells her that he can’t see her anymore to which Connie agrees.

Faye wonders if she should speak to Joseph to see if he is alright, as he seems concerned about something. Daisha is having a health scare with potential CT complications and when Faye sees Joseph with her she is worried about the attention he is showing her. Joseph keeps Daisha distracted by talking about baby names and Faye’s heart sinks. Jac clocks the worried look on Faye’s face and immediately guesses what her concerns are. She walks over and whispers to Faye about what a natural father Joseph is. Faye wonders whether she should raise this with him but if he does want to be a father where does that leave their relationship?

Michael operates on Chrissie’s face and does an excellent job with Chrissie clearly pleased with the result. Nobody at the hospital knows that Chrissie is back and Michael encourages her to see her friends at Holby saying that they will want to know how she’s getting on as they care about her. Chrissie knows this, but it’s been eight months since the attack and she’s just not sure she’s ready to see them yet. Chrissie wanders the wards, bumping into people and hearing gossip about the past few months. She can’t believe how much has happened while she’s been away.

Meanwhile, Christian’s condition deteriorates and Connie and Linden cannot get a pulse. He appears to be dead and Connie tells Jayne and John who collapse in each other’s arms. Connie looks at the two of them together and breaks down. Jayne goes to see Christian’s body and as she hugs him she notices his finger twitch. He’s alive! No one can believe or explain what has just happened but they rush him back into theatre to stabilise him.

Faye decides to avoid having the conversation with Joseph about her inability to have children as she doesn’t want to lose him, and she books a weekend away for them both. Daisha is back on her feet and thanks Joseph for being so supportive. Faye is clearly jealous of their relationship. Suddenly Daisha flinches and Joseph looks worried but it was the baby kicking. She grabs his hand and holds it to her tummy – the baby kicks again. Joseph is amazed and he can’t help smiling. He looks over at Faye and suddenly his smile fades as if he’s been caught thinking something that he shouldn’t. Connie asks to see Joseph as she needs him to work the weekend, ruining Faye’s romantic weekend away.

Chrissie visits Michael before leaving and tells him that she is unsure whether or not she can return to Holby as too much has changed. Michael lets her know about a job at a hotel with good money, good hours and no blood. Chrissie thanks Michael and says that she will think about her options. As she leaves the hospital she looks up and thinks about her future back there- does she really want to return?
