The TV 61-year-old TV star has admitted that he has to go to extreme lengths to keep his wife from learning he has enjoyed some southern fried chicken.

He said: "If I get KFC, I've literally got to hide the evidence. I've got to bury the packaging in the back garden."

The TV power couple - who are often seen presenting ITV's 'This Morning' - are well-known for their fiery relationship as they are often seen bickering on-screen and Eamonn admits that he doesn't want to get into arguments about food.

Speaking on the 'What's Upset You Now?' podcast, he explained: "I can't cook and I don't cook. There are certain takeaways which are acceptable to Ruth and certain ones that aren't."

He went on to reveal that when it comes to Kentucky fried chicken, he is forced to lie to his wife to avoid any trouble.

He added: "[Ruth] will come in like a raptor and say: 'I can smell something. What have you been eating?' and I go 'I just had beans on toast'. That's okay [but] if there's a crumb..."

It comes as the former 'Sky News' presenter has been at home in isolating as he battled coronavirus.

Ruth - who often presents herself as the long-suffering wife when presenting alongside her husband - took to Instagram to give fans and followers a humorous update on his condition.

The 'Loose Women' anchor, 60, was taking their dog for a walk when she spotted a decorative skeleton sticking out of the ground next to a sign which read 'Happy Halloween!' and captured the moment for her followers.

She captioned the post: "Happy to say @eamonnholmes is out of isolation today! Just need to feed him up a bit to get his strength back! Thank you for all your good wishes xx."
