The former 'Coronation Street' star has revealed he's "lost the bug" for acting and has become disheartened following a series of rejections.

Speaking to the 'Mancs On The Mic' podcast, he said: "It's so hard for me. I started off acting, I started off in that game and I really lost the bug for it. I feel the reason for losing the bug is rejection and going to auditions and not getting them."

Ryan - who rose to fame on 'Coronation Street' as a teenager - also said it was the abuse he received from trolls while he was filming 'Neighbours' that contributed to his decision.

He explained: "I've never had that before because social media wasn't around. I never got it in 'Corrie' because I never had social media when I was in 'Corrie'. If I did, it was at the end but I was so established there that people saw me as fixtures and fittings, so I never really got that sort of negative criticism.

"It happens in all aspects but I just found it really, really hard to deal with at first. I always think, 'Oh, it'll [the desire to act] come back at some point and maybe it will, and it's still something that I have in my locker if I want to explore it again. Right now I'm really happy with the direction I'm going."

Earlier this month, the former soap star revealed he'd been working as a delivery driver for his brother Adam's restaurant in Manchester.

He arrived at The Spinn to collect his own food, but he ended up ferrying other people's orders to their homes.

Ryan wrote on Instagram: "I came in for a burger and now I'm doing deliveries."

His former 'Emmerdale' star sibling Adam went into business with his pal Scott Graham in 2019 as they both longed to open up their own restaurant.

Things took a turn last year when the coronavirus pandemic struck, and they were forced to take up delivery duties themselves to keep costs to a minimum.
