Journey South

Andy and Carl from Journey South reached the final of X Factor in 2005 and went on to have a half a million selling No.1 album. Their second album ‘HOME’ is in the shops now. Here are their opinions on last Saturdays show.Carl – Well I have to say I was really shocked at this weeks result. I did not expect Beverley to go. No way!

"Was that Hope, or just one girl singing? I think it was a bit of a cop out."

Andy – Yeah I know what you mean. I thought it was the end of the line for Hope. I didn’t think either of them had great song choices though. Beverley suits the soulful songs better and in ‘Without You’ although she hit all the right notes, I didn’t really think the song suited her voice or style and was that Hope, or just one girl singing? I think it was a bit of a cop out and the judges were right to comment on it. It is like making a statement that only one of the five of them can sing.

Carl – Well only one of them can sing, can’t they? Yeah after being in the bottom two for the 3rd time I was convinced they were going home.

"I think Leon could be in with a chance though, his performance on Saturday was very confident"

Andy – The standard this week was a lot better and you can see they are all hell bent on winning now. You can see it in their eyes. For me though now Rhydian will be the clear winner if he sticks to what he did on Saturday, a great song for his voice and none of the gimmicks.

Carl – I think Leon could be in with a chance though, his performance on Saturday was very confident and he looked and sounded like a potential winnerAndy - I know what you mean, I’ve liked him all along and he seems to be finding his own style. They’ll all have it in their heads though that they only need to survive 2 more and they’re in the final. That will be all they can think about.

Carl – I remember we were very psyched up at this stage. I suppose we were lucky in that we had each other to calm ourselves down. For that reason I still don’t think we can rule out Same Difference. They’ll be in a good position mentally, as no-one knows what it is like in there and so to share it with someone close to you, for me, makes it a bit easier. Plus the public seem to love them, they’ve not been in the bottom two at all yet and I thought this week was their best week so far. They still freak me a little with their over enthusiasm, but I think they proved that they can actually sing and ‘Nothings gonna stop us’ was a very good choice for them.

Andy – Yeah I’d have never have predicted they’d have got this far, I bet they’re amazed themselves which is why they look so happy all the time.

Carl – Niki was one of my early favourites but although she hit the notes on Saturday, for some reason I found the performance a little bit unconvincing and I can’t put my finger on why?

Andy – I thought her styling was a bit OTT and she had too much make up. She definitely doesn’t need that much slap. She has a fantastic voice and I think the public like her.

Carl – It all seems to have gone very quickly I can’t believe it just three weeks it will be all over for yet another year.

Andy – Yeah, I think we all thought at the beginning that this years were not that strong as contestants, but I am really looking forward to the final, I think it’s a lot better than I initially thought.

Carl – So pick 3 for the final then?

Andy – Rhydian, Leon and Niki.

Carl – I’ll go Rhydian, Leon, Same Difference. I think Hope will definitely go next week, unless they pull something special out of the bag.
