Journey South

Journey South

Andy and Carl from Journey South reached the final of X Factor in 2005 and went on to have a half a million selling No.1 album. Their second album ‘HOME’ is in the shops now. Here are their opinions on last Saturdays show.Andy – Well no surprises this week that Hope have gone.Carl – Yeah, they’ve been lucky to hang on as long as they have. I thought they were given really bad song choices this week. Sorry if any of their fans are reading this but they murdered ‘We will Rock you’, no one should attempt a Queen song unless they’re really good.Andy – Their version of the Spice Girls wasn’t great either. They definitely deserved to go. Although it didn’t stop me really feeling for them, they took it so well and looked as if they expected it. I’m glad they said they would carry on as Hope, good luck to them.

“I don’t know whether peoples nerves are now getting the better of them, but I thought there were some very average performances this week.”

Carl – I thought the atmosphere was charged on Saturday, the competition at this stage will be quite intense.Andy – Yeah you can almost smell the desperation now that they all know they’re in with a shot of winning.

Carl – It brings back so many great memories, remember when we know we had reached the semi’s and then the final?

Andy – The feeling was just unbelievable. It’s at the stage now where I feel dead sorry for the ones that go. It must be so bad to come 4th or 5th as you are so close by then and its usually only the top 2 or 3 that go on to do anything meaningful.

Carl – And they must all be looking at Leona at number one in the charts and thinking ‘That could be me’

Andy – I don’t know whether peoples nerves are now getting the better of them, but I thought there were some very average performances this week.

“I put Same Difference in my prediction for the final. I didn’t quite get it on Saturday.”

Carl – Rhydian was on good form though and they were both really good songs for him. ‘I vow to Thee my Country’ will probably get the Welsh voting like crazy, so that seems like quite a good tactical choice. Unlike what I mentioned earlier, ‘Somebody to Love’ was an example of someone doing Queen well, although Ben did that song last year and I always prefer when they don’t repeat the songs.

Andy – Yeah I know I was disappointed they gave Leon ‘Long and winding Road’ as that song has been done to death on the show and so there are so many performances to compare it to. I like Leon a lot but I wasn’t mad on either choice of song he did. The Michael Buble style seems to suit him much better. I still think he could be in the running to win it, but they need to pick much better songs for him.

Carl – I put Same Difference in my prediction for the final. I didn’t quite get it on Saturday, were they in the bottom 2 or was it still classed as, no particular order?

Andy – I think they were in the bottom 2. Simon didn’t look too happy, I think he was very disappointed.

Carl – They are definitely going for the kids vote with their song choices.

Andy – Yes I thought ‘Any Dream will do’ was an ok performance, but the Wham song was way over the top and didn’t suit their vocals.

Carl – I think it’s great that it’s just the public vote at this stage, as it would be so unfair on the talent if the judges did a tactical vote and sent a potential winner home.

“I think Rhydian will win. He’s getting stronger each week..”

Andy – I know, when we were in it, I always thought that if we were in that position Louis would have probably sent us home. I’m glad we never got to find out.

Carl – Too right. Sharon would have kept us though, as she was always lovely to us.

Andy – I liked Niki on Saturday I think both of her songs were very different, but both convincing performances.

Carl – I thought the choices were a bit obvious and again overdone, but she did them well.

Andy – Well we were right last week about Hope going. I’m going to stand by my last week’s prediction and say Same Difference will go next week and the final will be Rhydian, Niki and Leon and I think Rhydian will win. He’s getting stronger each week.

Carl – I think you’re probably right but I’ll stick with my final 3 of Rhydian, Leon and Same Difference, as it looks a bit boring if we both have exactly the same!!
