Alexia asks :

Hi Lucy,

I have this friend, well acquaintance that lives across to me. Her mom and my mom are really close friends but me and her are not because I feel like she betrays me. We are both in year 7 and have known each other for 4 years. We've had many, many problems but know when we go to a new school it just gets worse. She tells lies on me and gets me into trouble for e.g. I sent a picture to a friend I know and she knows and said ‘didn't she look nice?’ but my behaviour teacher told me off! Which I was very mad at but I still forgave her. She has a very bad temper and loves to be right. She’s a show off and I just don't know what to do. My mom and her mom have had words and my mom says we need to go in our own ways but she just won’t stop following me! Loads of people dislike her and I heard she makes the behaviour teacher read her messages so I want to delete her on a social net but I don't know how she'll react! What shall I do? We've had many of talks but it won’t work- she'll always be a selfish spoilt girl.

Hi Alexia,

If your mom and her mom are good friends, then that doesn’t mean that you have to be with her. If your mum has already told you that she is ok that you go your own way then there is no pressure to stay friends with her.

You don’t necessarily need to delete her off social networks as this could make her question and challenge you. Simply ignore her posts and messages and cover yourself by not sending her any if she is sharing them with the class and her teacher. If you have tried talking to her about this with no luck and after four years you are still frustrated by her, then you two may never see eye to eye.

Why not just try to dial things back a bit with her? She will soon lose interest if you don’t pay her any attention and stop following you around.
