Our Reply

Hi Georgina,

The first thing I would suggest is joining a forum with other people who have gone through what you have so you can glean some advice on how to get back onto the dating scene. They will be able to advise best, having likely experienced the same feelings about dating right after their operation.

It might be wise to make friends with people in the forum first and foremost rather than jumping straight into dating. You have to adjust to your new body and until you get used to how you feel about yourself, this could be made ten times more difficult it you go straight into a relationship when you are not ready.

Perhaps you are coming on too strong because you have waited a long time for your operation and you are over eager to make up for lost time. You are in a place where you want to be now- so enjoy it rather than trying to rush it. You deserve to savour every moment so take things as they come. By making these lasting friendships you will be able to have some forethought for future dates, which will help you not to come on so strongly.
