Dr Hilary Jones suggests that we need to think about what we're drinking

According to leading medical chairty Allergy UK up to 45 per cent of the UK population is affected by reactions to ingredients in consumables.

Whilst many people are aware of their reactions to certain foods, their reactions to ingredients in drinks is often much less well known, that's why YorkTest Laboratories have launched their DrinkScan drink intolerance testing programme.

We all know that we need a good balanced diet to keep us healthy; however did you know that what we drink also has a significant impact on our overall health and wellbeing?

The human body is made up of 75 per cent water and we need to drink six to eight glasses of fluids per day to keep us healthy. Although many of us watch what we eat we don’t always think about whether the ingredients in all those different types of beverages that we drink could be contributing to our ill health symptoms.

Ingredients in coffee, teas, wines, beers, juices and smoothies all have the potential to cause intolerance symptoms. Although reactions to drinks may not be life threatening, they can make the sufferer feel extremely unwell and may have an impact on your work and social life.

Intolerance to a particular drink will not always show immediately, often taking a few hours to a few days to show up. The symptoms that are most commonly associated with these types of reactions are headaches, fatigue, migraines, irritable bowel (IBS), bloating, gut pain and skin conditions.

YorkTest DrinkScan is a unique drink intolerance programme that analyses our IgG antibody reactions to ingredients in everyday drinks. The YorkTest DrinkScan programme includes a convenient finger prick home-to laboratory service that tests your reactions to over 90 drink ingredients.

Dr Hilary Jones, TV Doctor confirms: “We often think about what we eat and how this affects the way we feel. Intolerances can cause a range of ill health symptoms including eczema, IBS, bloating, fatigue, migraine and many others, however, very few of us actually consider the fact that what we drink has just as much effect on our general health.

"The YorkTest DrinkScan programme is designed to look at specific antibody reactions the body has to ingredients in a variety of drinks including teas, coffees, shakes, fruit juices and alcoholic beverages, and uses laboratory testing to identify drink ingredients to which people may be sensitive.”
