This Christmas, millions of sweet-toothed Britons will tuck into at least 25 per cent more sugary treats than any other time of year.  With, three-quarters of those failing to brush their teeth more than usual, due to increased snacking.

TePe discovered that nearly one in 10 adults will eat indulge in twice as much sugary food and drink over Christmas and New Year.

The poll of over 4,500 people showed that during the festive period, personal grooming routines are more likely to increase than extra teeth brushing.  As 30 per cent admit to washing their hands more, a quarter more likely to wear make-up or aftershave and eighteen per cent likely to brush their hair more often.

Yet, as we throw normal eating regimes out of the window, women are likely to eat and drink more sugary foods and drinks than men.  With nearly one in four women estimating they eat 50 per cent extra sugar.  As a nation, Scotland will over indulge the most, as over 12% admit to eating double their usual sugary food and drink intake.

Whilst our waistlines may need some attention in the New Year, our gums and teeth require more immediate assistance, to protect them from all of those sugary delights. Your tooth brush reaches only 60% of your tooth surfaces and so The TePe Oral Health Care team recommend that you clean the remaining 40% - the spaces in between your teeth – with the use of an interdental brush as part of your daily routine – before or after the party!
