Dredd 3D

Dredd 3D

Dredd 3D has topped the UK box office holding off the challenge from other new releases Lawless and Anna Karenina.

The movie is based on the comic books and is the first time that we have seen the character on the big screen since the mid-nineties.

Karl Urban takes over the title role and the film took just over £1 million in its opening weekend to secure the top spot.

Lawless is a big screen adaptation of The Wettest Country In The World and sees Tom Hardy join forces with Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman.

The movie is the second film inside the top ten for Hardy this week but Lawless was just piped to the top spot.

Anna Karenina was the third and final new entry on the top ten this week as it opened at number three.

Keira Knightley reunites with director Joe Wright as the Leo Tolstoy novel is brought to life.

Total Recall was down three places this week at number four while Brave was down two at five.

The Possession fell just a single place to six while Ted dropped out of the top five as it was down three at seven.

The Dark Knight Rises passed the £55 million mark at the UK box office as it continues to pull in the cash. However it was down two this week at number six.

The Watch was this week's biggest faller as it dropped seven places from two to number nine. The Bourne Legacy rounded off the top ten at number ten after falling three places.
