Maddy mopes into work and finds Linden in an equally bad mood after both had rejections the day before. Mark is about to head off on babysitting duty and he remarks that he’s upset to leave the sunny world of AAU today. A stab victim with a head trauma comes in, and Linden’s mood worsens as the hypothermic treatment that he was developing would have helped the patient.

Joseph comes into work and is expecting to see Faye on the ward but finds Daisha. He is shocked as he thought Daisha would be at home with her baby but Daisha explains that Mark is looking after him and that Faye is off as her sister is ill. Joseph looks confused- He didn’t know that Faye had a sister.

Donna’s in a bad mood as she hasn’t been getting much theatre time and hasn’t had much of an opportunity to get scrub nurse experience. She’s never going to become one at this rate. Meanwhile Maria gets a call from Aaron– he’s got a job in Barcelona for the next few weeks and will be heading out there this afternoon. Maria is clearly upset as things have been going really well with him and now he’s going to disappear to Spain for a fortnight and she won’t even get a chance to say goodbye.

Maddy, tries to think positive and works hard and fast on the stab victim. Maddy preps the patient and heads into theatre with Linden. The operation has its hurdles, but it’s a success. Linden can’t help but be infected by Maddy’s enthusiasm and he apologises for not backing up Maddy’s application for promotion. Maddy explains that she’s more determined than ever to be a success because she loves her job.

Joseph calls Faye again and again but gets no answer. His OCD starts to reappear and he is at a real loss at what to do. Joseph calls Greenlands to see if Faye is there but she isn’t. As he puts down the telephone he sees Faye. She explains that she needed some time out to clear her mind and that she doesn’t want him to contact her. Joseph is understandably distraught and Daisha tries to console him saying that Faye will soon realise what a mistake it would be to leave him. Joseph thanks her for her concern and immediately tries calling Faye. No answer.

Pretty swiftly another case is admitted. A mother and her two young kids have been in an RTA. Linden, Maddy and the team on AAU work to stabilise the kids. The mother is brought in with extreme chest pains. She needs an operation and it’s not looking good. The police inform Linden that she was three times over the legal drinking limit. Linden tells her that they’re trying to get hold of the husband. She panics as she doesn’t want Linden to contact him.

Joseph is torn between his home life and work. He’s needed on the ward and a testy Elliot urges Joseph to get a move on. Joseph clearly cannot concentrate and it proves difficult for him to get through seeing his patients. One patient in particular gives Joseph a hard time as his wife claims that Joseph influenced her to buy a cancer drug for him that was not available in the UK. Joseph denies that he ever said it but Elliot informs him that he could be in a lot of trouble if this goes any further, which it looks like it might- Joseph doesn’t need this today.

Elliot looks after the children, one is fine but the other needs an operation as some of her organs have been pushed into her upper body. Maddy and Linden work on the mother but things start to go wrong- they’re losing her. Neither Linden nor Maddy are going to let this happen. They complete the operation, but it’s touch and go. Maddy and Linden pull together and manage to save her much to their delight.

An upset Maria goes to Donna – she really needs her help. Donna explains she will cover her this afternoon so she can go say goodbye to Aaron. Donna prides herself in being one of the gang – always ready to help a friend in need. Maria gets ready to nip out but Donna is asked by Elliot to help out as a scrub nurse for an operation on a young RTA victim. She can’t let Maria down again, can she?

Because of their history in South Africa, Joseph asks Linden if he’s heard from Faye, but he hasn't. Joseph digs more out of Linden and he reveals that she had asked him to water the plants in her flat and feed her fish. Joseph is clearly jealous.

Kyla finds out that her son Max got an offer from the football academy. She's stunned and delighted except for the fact it’s in Rotterdam. He's only fourteen years old and Kyla tells Maddy that she’s thinking of going with him

It’s the end of Joseph’s shift and he gets into his car. Daisha sees Joseph and tries to grab his attention and asks whether he’d like to go for a drink.

Donna accepts Elliot’s offer letting Maria down and telling her that she’s needed in theatre. Maria is devastated as she wanted to say goodbye to Aaron. In theatre Donna is receiving expert tuition from Elliot and Donna savours the thrill of life and death surgery. Afterwards Donna apologizes to Maria and says she had to be in theatre. Elliot appears and thanks Donna for helping during the operation when she didn’t need to. Mariah is furious, how could Donna do this to her? Its too late for Maria, Aaron is on his way to the airport. Maria is devastated and finds Sam for a shoulder to cry on.
