Cherie Lunghi has suffered with her joints before

September is Hug your Joints month, as you read this interview think about how you're sitting in the chair, or whether you're leaning or crouching to read this; is it putting unnecessary strain on your body?

It's time to do something about it.

Cherie Lunghi learnt this the hard way. After suffering from an injury when she picked something heavy up and twisted her body she quickly realised how easy it is to damage our bodies and that we can't push it to the limits all of the time.

Why did you decide to get involved with Hug Your Joints month?

Because in my job one can't take a day off...the show must go on. So my health and fitness are of paramount importance to my livelihood and my quality of life. Especially joint care

How will you be raising awareness?

Well, we have launched a dedicated website called hugyourjoints.co.uk which is packed with helpful and handy information on joint health and on it you also do a joint health MOT designed by leading physiotherapists and joint health experts to assess your joints and offer advice. We are doing in-store promotions across selected Boots stores nationwide to educate on the importance of looking after our joints with top tips from leading physiotherapists.

How important is it for people to realise that they need to take care of their joints?

I have always thought of my body as a vehicle that I depend on. In my opinion it is very important to take care of our joints. Like the mechanics of a car, with constant use, our joints  suffer wear and tear and if there is damage, then our freedom of movement is affected and we have to live with pain. Our joints need and deserve good care and maintenance.

What sort of things do you do to look after them?

I do Yoga, stretches every day and a couple of simple exercises to strengthen my core muscles which support the back . And I take Regenovex which contains a natural marine oil called Bionovex, which contains omega 3 and Hyluronic acid to help with the lubricating and cushioning of the joint as well as reducing the inflammation. I take the capsules daily and also use Regenovex patches on my back

What easy things can other people do to look after their joints?

I recommend gentle and regular exercise like pilates or yoga, to stay aware of your joints and keep them flexible. I also recommend taking a daily Regenovex capsules which have been specifically formulated to help maintain the health of the joints. Recent studies have shown that Regenovex Capsules can help protect joint tissue. You can find out more about joint care during Hug Your Joints month, there will be an MOT for your joints and suggestions for easy exercises too.

How else do you stay in shape?

Fortunately, where I live, I do not need a car, so I walk a lot.  Also, within reason, I try to use stairs rather than elevators. For the past 6 weeks I have been working and living out of the city and have been borrowing bikes. So I have re-discovered the pleasure and benefits of cycling too.

Do you follow a strict diet?

No, my life is not routined enough for that and I enjoy a wide variety of foods and cuisines. I suppose I eat the things I really like, whilst making sure I include food that is nutritious, like fresh fruit and vegetables.  I do have a sweet tooth which I try not to over - indulge. When I am working in the theatre and touring,  as I am now, it is hard to eat a decent meal at the right time. If I eat a meal before the show,  it makes me sluggish, and it is too late to eat afterwards. So I am eating brunches and light, early suppers at the moment.

What other things have you got coming up?

I am coming to the end of the tour of  'The Sydicate' and I may be doing another play next year. I have been working mainly in television, which I enjoy, but it is always good to get back on stage again.
