Avoid piling on the pounds at Christmas with these tips

Avoid piling on the pounds at Christmas with these tips

Christmas is that time of year that all dieters dread, when we prepare for our waist lines to expand to make room for lashings of mince pies, chocolate and endless roast dinners with all the trimmings. Fortunately we don’t all have to undo our good work and can maintain our healthy lifestyles by sticking to a few simple rules to help us to look our best this festive season.

Sandra Dowse, at DesirableBody.co.uk, believes that there are many tactics you can adopt to limit weight gain in the run up to Christmas whist maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Sandra comments: ‘It is all too easy to fall off the diet wagon when surrounded by festive food and drink at Christmas, however, it is actually simpler to keep control of your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle than you think. Planning ahead, taking supplements or walking more you can allow yourself that bit of freedom when you really want to get in the Christmas spirit. You don’t have to obsess with dieting this year, just keep some guidelines in your head and it easy to maintain your weight through to 2014.”

Here, Sandra provides her top tips to manage your weight this Christmas:

Plan your eating habits for the week ahead

Planning your food for the week ahead will aid you in making those healthier meal choices.  For example, if you know that you are going to have to go out one evening and it’s likely you are going to indulge in a calorie laden meal, planning ahead will allow you to make the right food choices for breakfast and lunch. I recommend having a protein rich diet where you can, to help you feel fuller for longer.

Learn to love green tea

Try your best to detox through the festivities and help fight against the onslaught of unwanted fat and energy loss that can be brought on by Christmas parties and events. Products such as the Re:Active Green Tea Weight Loss capsules help to rid the body of excess fats whilst containing powerful anti-oxidant properties, suppress hunger and boost your immune system. Green Tea and Green Tea supplements also contain bioflavonoids, which help prevent against infection which is rife throughout the winter months.

Fill up on healthy snacks

At Christmas we often find ourselves surrounded by temptation in the form of chocolate treats, cakes and pies. What you should do to prevent piling on the pounds this year is to make sure you are constantly stocked up with healthy snacks instead. Fresh fruit, vegetables and whole grain snacks not only contain less calories and fat but provide a slow release of energy keeping you fuller for longer.

Drink plenty of water

We all have those moments where all we can think about is food and no matter what we eat we still seem to be hungry. However thirst is often mistaken for hunger and all we need is a glass of water to appease our cravings.

Walk more

The cold weather can often lead us to be a little lazier than we would usually, with many of us choosing to catch cabs instead of walking to our Christmas parties and meals. It’s amazing how effective  walking for 10 minutes rather than jumping on the bus can be for managing your weight – and don’t worry, if you walk briskly you will be warm in no time! I suggest to many people that they try walking home from work with Reebok’s 1kg ankle weights attached to their legs for that extra effect. These weights help strengthen and tone whilst you move, and can help keep those Christmas pounds at bay.

Limit your alcohol consumption – or switch to spirits

Christmas festivities are always packed with bottles of bubbly and mulled wine, with us often finding ourselves drinking more than we would usually. What we don’t think about is how many calories we are consuming per glass, with the average 250ml glass adding 260 calories to your daily intake! Try to cut back by sipping on water between glasses of wine and if you find it hard to limit your alcohol consumption over Christmas, switch to spirits with low calorie mixers, which usually only have on average 80 calories or less.

Up your exercise regime – and get a little help

With your Christmas schedule well under way it can be hard to cram in those much needed workouts. When you do have time to hit the gym, make sure it counts! I recommend taking Re:Active T5 Black Thermo Fat Burner whilst working out, as it will raise your body temperature, speeding up weight loss.. Quick daily exercises like skipping, with the Reebok Speed Rope, are also manageable time wise and extremely effective.

Detox with supplements

Weight loss supplements can be extremely helpful in maintaining your weight loss and detox throughout the festive season. Supplements such as the Re:Active T5 Super & Acai Slimming Pills are helpful in suppressing those hunger pangs whilst cleansing your whole body of toxins and impurities giving your body that much needed pre-Christmas detox.
