You could save money on exercise by working out at home

Finally, the weather is encouraging us to get outside and the holidays are soon approaching – it’s time to get fit and in shape.

But we all know that exercising can be expensive.

Here we have some tips from Save.co.uk on how to get in shape, lose some pounds but most importantly, by not spending too many pennies.

We want to save our money for a new wardrobe for our new body.

Joining a gym isn’t the only option - Although a gym may seem like the only way to get fit, think twice before joining as they can cost anywhere between £20 - £100 and if you know you’re not going to make the most of it, that might be money down the drain. Most towns have a local leisure centre which you can use on a pay-as-you go basis. Or check out www.payasugym.com for one off exercising fun!

Make your commute more fun – Live in London and hate the packed tube in the morning? Why not go by Boris bike instead? They are cheap and easy to hire and a great form of exercise! Don’t live near Boris bikes? Ask your boss about the Cycle2Work scheme, your boss will buy you a bike and you repay them in monthly installments that are taken straight from your gross salary. Bonus is you don’t pay VAT which will make you quite a saving!

Hit your local park – With the weather taking a turn for the better, you can take advantage of your local park's offerings to help you stay in shape. Create your own "circuit" by running a certain distance, then using benches and pavement ledges to do elevated planks, push-ups, sit-ups, you name it! Not only will you stay in shape, but you'll get the added boost of exercising in the great outdoors

Save as a spectator – Want to see more live sport but find it too expensive? Why not split a season pass with a friend and share your seat to the games. Half the price and a lot more fun than watching them all in the pub!

Save online – However you’re exercising, it’s important to have the right equipment. Remember to always check discount voucher sites like save.co.uk for codes to save money in a range of different sport shops!

Exercise at home – Why not try completing an exercise DVD at home? You may feel silly at first but after a few minutes, you’ll be enjoying yourself. Don’t spend loads on brand new DVDs; check out your local library or find exercise clips on YouTube instead!

Team sports – If you think you might like playing a team sport, keep your eye out for local teams which will no doubt be cheap to join and a great way to make new friends. If you work for a big company, it’s likely they have a five-a-side football or hockey team you can join too. If both of those options fail, why not grab some friends and organise a basketball or football game in the park?
