Increasing numbers of women turn to online gaming...

According to a new survey commisioned by Doritos, you're not in the minority as increasingly, more and more women are turning to online gaming as a big source of entertainment.

A survey of 2052 people found that out of the women asked, 84% of women enjoyed gaming compared to working out, having a bath or even using the internet for a little retail theropy.

Online gaming can include anything from cash or gambling games to puzzles and social networking games.

Additionally men have been found to be less selective when it comes to choosing their games but women like to go for those that test their brain power.

The findings follow the launch of Doritos Dip Desperado, a fun, free mobile app and Facebook game which offers fans entertainment and the chance to score cool prizes.

Contrary to popular belief, gaming is not just a pasttime enjoyed by men as it is virtually as popular among women. 50% of men surveyed online say they play games and hot on their heels at 49%, are the ladies.

UK online gamers spend an average of 3.5 hours playing each week. On average women spend more of their total time online gaming than men to with 23.1% of ladies time spent gaming compared to 22.3% of guys.

As their reputation preceeds, some ladies are even known to multi task when online gaming, with 30% claiming to game and watching television at the same time.

60% of ladies asked say that this is a way for them to relax and put aside the streeses of everyday life. Men are attracted more to the competitive element to gaming, moreso than women.

This popular passtime is used as a way to destress, pass the time of the daily commute and even used as a chill-out before sleep, with 17% of female online gamers admitting to playing in bed!

Much like everyday life, women are attracted to games with a social element which allow for communicating with other gamers. 43% of women have used social networking games compared to 26% of men.

Additionally men have been found to be less selective when it comes to choosing their games but women like to go for those that test their brain power.

With so many to choose from and a variety to suit any interest, it's no wonder that more of us are turning to the web to get our competitive kicks or gaming urges satisfied.
