It's More Tempting To Check Facebook Than Have Sex

Recently we saw how a third of people would answer their phones during sex, but now it appears that we would rather skip the sex altogether and go straight for our social networking sites.

Researchers at Chicago University's Booth Business School gathered the research by using Blackberry’s to track the 250 participants desires.

The results showed that the desire to check our social networking sites and interact through tweets, comment and photos is stronger than the want for sex or cigarettes.

The participants were contacted seven times over 14 hours for seven days and were asked about what they were desiring of had desired in the last 30 minutes.

They had to explain how strong that desire was and if it had conflicted with any other desires.

If the desire had conflicted with another, they were then asked which desire had won out or if they had resisted the pull.

The study showed that the hardest desire to resist was checking social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Wilhelm Hofmann, the study's lead author has a number of theories as to why we desire social networking so greatly.

He suggested that it could be that it’s more readily available then other desires, and is a lot cheaper that cigarettes and alcohol.

He told The Guardian, “Desires for media may be comparatively harder to resist because of their high availability and also because it feels like it does not cost much to engage in these activities, even though one wants to resist.”

The study also found that work was an addiction for most, despite us constantly complaining about having to do it.

The researchers also found that the more one had to resist something, so grew the urge to want to do it.
