Male Stripping Is Glorified In Magic Mike

When you think of a male strip club you think of a big brightly lit stage, many props and many men dressed in a variety of outfits. It’s more like a stage production than anything else.

Whereas when you think of female strip clubs you think of a dingy back alley club, dim lighting and scantily clad women falling around poles.

Ali Campbell, a relationship counsellor, life coach and best-selling author of More than Just Sex at alicampbell.com, feels as though the major difference lies within the fantasy and the reality.

He says, “I think in order to understand the difference between male and female stripping we have to first understand the difference in stimulation between 'fantasy' and 'reality'.

“Male strippers play 'a' part while female strippers just reveal 'their' parts.”

It seems that not only is it the profession, but those who watch strip shows that shape the opinions and judgements.

Ali continues, “In a male strip show there is something to titillate whatever your taste in fantasy. If you're a 'fireman' kind of girl you can marvel at the length of his hose while the 'policeman' girl's just can't get enough truncheon... It's fantasy; it's a dance troupe in G-strings.”

Ali suggest that women are more than happy to have the fantasy of the situation and don’t require anything more.

“There's no expectation of anything more and a good giggle with the girls and perhaps just the thought that tonight as you cuddle up to your 'real man' that may he could be the bronzed, baby oiled six pack sporting Adonis of earlier that evening,” he says.

“Female stimulation is all in the head whereas for us guys it does tend to be found in a much smaller head a good bit lower down and that is why male and female stripping is so very different.”

For men, the desired outcome of that night is very different to that of women’s. Ali says, “I'm not saying that every guy who goes to see a strip show secretly dreams of 'rescuing' her and being her knight in shining armour or even that all guys who watch usually much younger women take their clothes off have a problem or, even that there is anything wrong with it but there is a huge difference in the desired outcome of the evening’s entertainment.”

Ali also comments of the difference in venue when it comes to male and female strip clubs, saying, “Male strip shows tend to take place in theatres around the country, the kind of places you'd also take your kids to for the Christmas Panto... Oh yes you would!

“But when it comes to doing anything more than looking and whooping at PC pecs and his chums, oh no you wouldn't! But it would take more than a genie’s 3 wishes to make female strip bars fit for family consumption.”

It seems that the main reason the sexes are judged so differently is because they are representing different things, men are paying for one thing and women another.

Ali finishes by saying, “Many have tried and failed to make female stripping 'fun' but the fact remains that the men who pay good money to watch are not interested in fantasy, it's reality they are after even if they're not allowed to touch it.”
