The reason being that their partners are completely unsympathetic and refuse to care for them during their illness.

Out of the 1000 women polled by Sovereign Health Care, 80 per cent said they would like their spouse to be more caring and sympathetic towards then when they are sick and 62 per cent said they would rather suffer in silence.

In comparison, only 20 per cent of men wish their spouse would be more sympathetic, proving that women are more caring and attentive when their husband is suffering from illness.

Shockingly, 16 per cent of men also admitted that they will often exaggerate their illness in order to get more attention from their partner.

Cold and flu, period pains, hay fever and headaches were named the illnesses which are the least likely to get women any sympathy from their partner.

This leads them to go to their friends or a work colleague for some support. Worryingly, 64 per cent of women wouldn’t tell anyone, not even their doctor!

Caroline Cundey, a spokesperson for Sovereign Health Care says, “Our survey reveals that women aren’t necessarily getting the support they would like at home from their partner.

“What’s more worrying to us is the large number of women telling no one when they are experiencing pain, discomfort and illness.

“By putting off treatment or consultation, conditions can escalate. Even if you can’t tell your partner it’s important to speak with your GP or a health care professional.”
