Christmas parties

Women are worried about losing ‘incriminating’ photos from their mobile phones, while men are more concerned about losing ‘saucy’ snapshots, research shows.

Today is set to be the busiest day for Christmas parties across Britain, and careless behaviour combined with festive drinks means that mobiles are more likely to be stolen or lost.

Although phone insurance covers lost or stolen mobiles, over 60% of people now use their mobile phones to store photos and videos.

Alfie Dennen, technologist from Moblog says: “On average, ten thousand mobile phones are left in the back of black cabs every month. Can you imagine how many private and personal pictures that equates to?”

92% of women say that pictures of family would be the most devastating thing to lose if they lost their phone, but only 25% back their photos up onto computers.

However, they are also concerned about losing compromising or ‘incriminating’ photos.

Men are less likely to be upset if they lose photos from their phones than women are, but are worried about losing ‘saucy’ photos. As a result, 40% of men back up their images and videos onto computers.

4.5million phones were lost or damaged this year, with the majority of men claiming to have ‘lost’ their phone, and women being more likely to have had their phones ‘stolen or broken’.

This research comes from ShoZu, a service that allows people to send their favourite photos to their email accounts and to over fifty online destinations.

ShoZu’s Mark Bole says: “December is the month for getting snap happy with your phone, but is also the month in which we are likely to be more rushed.

“That means it’s important to keep pictures safe and share them with the important people in your life”.
