The cost of the energy bills- There is one person in every couple who has a 'live for now' attitude and worries about the bills later. The other is all about damage control- never a winning combination.

Duvet hogging- In every couple there is a partner who becomes a thief in the night. In their sleepy state they clearly think that duvets are like toilet roll- you just keep on pulling.

Using a free standing heater- As if your heating bill is not enough- one of you insists on making the electricity bill soar too.

Controlling the thermostat remotely- It's too easy to change the temperate at the push of a button. And you can do it on the sly too. Not great for those who are gadget friendly while their partner is a fan of the old fashioned way- namely because it's easy to track their partner's movements when they have to get up to change the temperature.

Keeping the curtains drawn- One of you likes to live like a bat while the other is desperate to let in as much of the little light there is at this time of year. Neighbours become confused as to whether to send a sympathy card or not.

Wearing a t-shirt instead of a jumper- The complainer of the cold is usually the one who is not dressed appropriately and will reach for the heating button before wrapping up. While their multi- layered partner looks on in anger.

Walking barefoot rather than wearing slippers- Which results in them placing their icy cold feet on their partner for warmth when they go to bed. Every year they buy their cold footed loved one slippers and bed socks but they never take the hint.
