Singles today have access to the likes of Tinder and watch shows such as Take Me Out, which are not considered the best examples of how to be traditionally romantic. With that said, 18-24 year olds believe themselves and their partner to be more romantic than any other age group.

So how do these young lovers express their romance the most? Such couples take trips away, have dinner and drinks by candlelight and exchange flowers and thoughtful gifts in order to keep things fresh. All things which are synonymous with a movie worthy date.

Birmingham is supposedly the most romantic city in the UK as lovers based in the Midlands think nothing of arranging a hot air balloon ride or a moonlit dinner by the Grand Canal in Venice to impress their significant other.

Londoners also believe that they know a thing or two about romance- and it helps to live in one of the most romantic cities in the world.

Claire Rowland, Director of Marketing at QHotels, said: "Being romantic isn't just about the grand gestures; it's about the little things that show people you care. Our research shows that, for many people, a simple breakfast in bed or surprise dinner date is all it takes to keep the romance alive, as well as remembering key dates like birthdays and anniversaries.

" Although it is the younger generation who most identify as romantics, many of the older generation still have a few tricks up their sleeve - from returning to the hotel where they had their honeymoon for a glass of champagne 40 years later, to always going out for dinner on Valentine's Day, and arranging surprise trips away."
