Bad date!

Bad date!

Bowes-Lyon Partnership found that a dating guide from 1938 still has weight today!

Hayley Bystram, director of the dating agency Bowes-Lyon Partnership, says,

“This guide is decades old, and is equal parts hilarious and insightful. The language might be slightly old-fashioned, but there are some tips which can still be made relevant to the dating public of 2013.”

  1. 1.    Don’t sit in awkward positions and don’t look bored even if you are

As every body language expert will tell you if you look awkward, then this can translate to your date and make them feel awkward. So if you think that the date is not going so well then be polite and think about how you would feel if you were on the receiving end of a slouching date. Try to enjoy it the best you can!

  1. Don’t talk about clothes or try to describe your new gown to a man. Please and flatter your date by talking about the things he wants to talk about.

The first part can still be applied- men are not that bothered about clothes, they may like that your outfit shows off your figure or make your boobs look bigger but they don’t care where it has come from, however much it has cost or how long it took you to pick it. If you work in fashion or are passionate about it then mention it, but a barrage of info on one subject is boring in any situation!

The second is  a little questionable as a date should be about equal exchange, you are gathering as much information as possible to find out if you want a second meeting, so talking about one person all night is not only dull but defeats the object of going on the date in the first place!

  1. 3.    Don’t be sentimental

There is a fine line between showing your vulnerable side and crying at the dinner table. Men need to know that you are accessible emotionally but not to the point where he is tiptoeing around you for things to say that might offend you. If you are both honest about your feelings there is no room for confusion and guessing what the other thinks about you.
