Today is World Honesty Day and MySingleFriend has suggested that people don't mean what they say on the descriptions they put on dating site profiles. I asked around the office what they thought the hidden meaning of each of the following statements was- the findings were interesting indeed…..

'I'm looking for my soulmate!'

'I'm looking for my soulmate!'

I'm a real travel junkie -

'When I was 20, I went to Malia on an 18-30s holiday with my mates and got insanely drunk. My only mementos are Facebook pictures- ones that I can't bear to look at now. Please don't request me or you might find them.'

'I have a long commute to work.'

'I go to Benidorm with my family each year.'

I'm easy going -

'I am so laid back I could fall over. I stay in bed late and I can't make decisions if my life depended on it.'

'I lack ambition have none of my own opinions.'

I enjoy nights in and nights out -

'Please take me out- I NEED a night out! It's been a long time since I went outside.'

'I have no hobbies or interests of my own and just go with what everyone else likes to do.'

Looking for my partner in crime -

'And by crime I mean I may have been arrested once and looking for someone who doesn't judge me for it.'

'I have an upcoming stay in a hotel (double room) and want to make my money back.'

I'm so bubbly and up for a laugh -

'I am the one that everyone avoids bringing on a night out because no one can tolerate me even after copious amounts of alcohol.'

'My sense of humour is so very strange- I just stare at people- it makes them nervous…'

I love laughing -

'I'm not dead.'

'I was running out of things to say on my profile- can you tell?'

'At the end of each outburst- I snort.'

Work hard but play harder -

'I don't work that hard actually.'

'I like clichés because I don't have anything interesting to say for myself.'

'I go to the pub every night after work- you have to get that balance just right.'

I'm searching for my soul mate -

' I vomited in a bucket while writing this.'

'I really like cheese.'

I'm looking for my knight in shining armour -

'I'm addicted to Disney.'

'I have really bad taste in men.'

'I am traditional and believe that you will turn up on a horse and take me to your castle.'

I'm a little bit crazy -

'See above.'

I'm a nice person -

'Mittens are nice!'

Sarah Beeny, founder of MySingleFriend.com and TV personality commented:

"National Honesty Day is the perfect excuse to get real with your dating profile. Using tired, dating clichés are not going to make your profile and you stand out, and ultimately could hamper your love life. Your dating profile is a vehicle for showing what makes you different, why someone should choose you compared with the thousands of other people available. So dump the clichés and be honest. Show people what makes you special and you are much more likely to find someone who you can really click with."
