In this day and age dating is a serious business. We’re all on the lookout for our perfect partner so when it comes to dating the pressure is on.

Naturally, all this added pressure can lead to a few slip-ups on the date and with our nerves running wild, it certainly doesn’t help to start the date on the wrong foot.

Unfortunately, for some men, this is exactly how it starts. Halls XS found that a small percentage of men get so nervous before their date that they end up calling their date by the wrong name – ouch!

But it doesn’t end there, for some men the pressure gets to be so much that they have actually fallen over!

It’s not just the men that suffer though, both men and women said that they have lost the power of speech on their date through nerves.

Alarmingly, women are the worst at keeping their cool, literally, with 35 per cent saying they become flushed and sweaty.

Despite all of this, Halls XS found that the most nerve-wrecking part of a date is the last 10 seconds before the actual encounter.

So how do we deal with all those nerves? Well, men turn to the bottle for some Dutch courage, whilst women will don their favourite dress to give them that all-important confidence boost.

Susan Quilliam, Halls XS Relationship Expert said, “It’s a universal truth that dating is nerve-wracking, especially the last 10 seconds before that first encounter, or ‘Date Minus 10’ as we call it. It’s at this moment you need to take a deep breath and pull yourself together physically, mentally - and emotionally.”

Despite only 12 per cent of respondents saying they met their date through online dating sites, many men and women find the internet useful when dating.

Over 20 per cent of men and women admitted that they will use social networking to do a little detective work on their date before they meet.
