The traditional date usually includes dressing to the nines, heading out to a nice restaurant and getting to know each other over a delicious meal and a fine wine.

Now, due to the economic downturn, Britain’s would much prefer to stay in with a potential partner rather than go out and spend a fortune.
Surprisingly, it is the women who would much rather save money than splash the cash, something that is typically associated with men.
When asked how much they would like to spend on a date, 83 per cent of women said they would only expect to spend £20.
Men, on the other hand, were a lot more generous when it came to spending on their dates, with over 40 per cent saying they would happily spend £50, compared to just 9 per cent of women.
Despite men being willing to spend more, it seems that women are now looking for men who are financially stable and good with their money.
Over two thirds of women admitted that they would not date a man if he was unemployed.
In contrast, 90 per cent of men said they would date a woman who was unemployed, showing they are more likely to overlook a woman’s employment status.
Despite both sexes having different views when it comes to how you should spend money, they agreed that the economy has made them think more about what they’re spending.
Once again, women were much more cautious with 20 per cent more saying they were extra careful when it came to their spending.
Sean Wood, Communications Director for Cupid Plc who conducted the research, said, “Our survey showed that, in these times of austerity, women are far more careful when it comes to spending money on dates, whilst men are more free with their cash.”
Despite this, dating still seems to be a priority for many Brits, with Cupid PLC seeing a rise in members of over 40 per cent in the last year alone.
Sean said, “It just shows, whatever the financial climate out there, we are always looking for love.”
