Find regular time to chat -

Dedicate time each week to discussing how you're both doing. Talk about what did - and didn't - go well in the week to ensure things move in a positive direction next week. Also, use this time to get on the same page with your schedules and arrange time together.

Eye contact is key -

Never underestimate the power of eye contact. When talking to your partner, put your phone down and pay attention. Focusing on them and avoiding distractions shows you're listening and that you care.

Be empathetic -

Showing empathy when your partner is talking through an issue can help the two of you to connect. Comments like 'I understand' show you're listening, whilst nodding and sitting with an open stance - as opposed to crossed arms - can build rapport.

Remove yourself from the conversation -

If your loved one has had a bad day, interrupting them with comments like 'that's what I went through' can be counterproductive. On an emotional level, we rarely have the same experiences, so instead, just listen and allow them to express the problem from their point of view.

Don't provide a solution -

When your partner is facing a problem, they're often not looking for you to provide a solution; they just want someone to listen. If they ask for advice, provide it, but if not, try allowing them to vent.

If you want something, just ask -

Our partner's aren't mind readers, so expecting them to know when you want something can end up leading to disappointment. To avoid feeling let down, stop assuming your other half always knows what you want - just ask for it!

Talk about what you find sexy -

This isn't exclusively referring to bedroom antics - although that's important too! Learn to talk openly about any day-to-day habits you do - and don't - find sexy. Increasing 'sexy' behaviours, and limiting those that aren't, will keep the spark ignited in your relationship.
