If you're single and less than excited about being alone over the festive season- you aren't the only one. For those who have recently broken up with someone or have been through a divorce; the idea of family gatherings and Christmas parties is not the most ideal of situations to be in.

People are bound to ask questions like 'have you got a new partner?' or 'why are you still single?'

To top it off, you have to spend the holidays around happy loved up people which can make you focus on the fact you don't have a partner.

Manj Weerasekera, aka The Fresh Start Guy , believes Christmas is the ideal time of year to meet a new partner. He also thinks that the odds are in your favour at this moment.

All the surveys conducted by dating websites show that people are much more likely to meet their significant other at Christmastime. Dating sites always see a surge of new members over the holidays. One site in particular found a 250% increase on Boxing Day.

If you make the decision to go looking for a partner then you need to first design them.

Manj says that the design part of dating is one of the most important aspects. If you neglect this part then you may hinder your chances of finding your new Mr/Mrs. right.

A design and a plan are integral steps in any business coaching- which is not all that different to finding a date.

Manj believes the way to find the one is to decide what you want from him first.

* What do they look like physically?

* What do they sound like?

* What are they like emotionally?

* What interests do they have and what do they like doing?

* What beliefs and values do they have?

* How you are physically together?

* Their temperament?

* Their spirituality?

It doesn't have to include every last detail but some idea of the person you want to end up with is a good barometer when heading into the dating game. Manj suggests making a list of the male version of yourself if you get stuck.

This will give you some clarity as to what you desire from your perfect partner and also make you seem decisive and self-aware to a potential date too.

It will make you feel in control of your dating life and allow you to enjoy time with friends and family, while you know where your life is headed.

If you feel confident at this point and in charge of your dating destiny, it's easier to be single and enjoy the dating process without feeling too much pressure to find your ideal guy.

If you are able to relax and enjoy the present as well as have a clean vision of what you want moving forward this is a winning combination.

Who knows what could happen- you may be planning a new life with a new partner by the New Year.
