Despite what we've been led to believe, men are keener than women to get things moving at the start of a relationship according to dating app Happn.

Both sexes take less than one minute to decide if they like a profile on a dating app or not. Despite this decisiveness, 49% of women who use such apps would not make the first move.

Over half of men would make contact straight away.

Men are more enthusiastic about getting out there and on a date than woman too- as they're ready in just a couple of days, whereas women would rather wait around a week.

Myths have circulated for years that men prefer to keep things casual; however it's been found that men like to keep the momentum going when it comes to moving forward in a relationship. In fact they would prefer to be exclusive within a month- women are a little more cautious and would rather hold off for a couple of months before announcing their new romance.

A few months in is where these trends start to shift- men slow down about three months in where women are ready to say 'I love you'- as soon as they feel it- they say it. Men like to think about it before they verbalise their feelings.

When it comes to wedding bells, however, both men and woman are willing to wait a couple of years before tying the knot. Women don't like to have a long engagement, whereas men are quite happy to wait three year or more before they walk down the aisle.

Marie Cosnard, Head of Trends at dating app Happn, says: "Men are surprisingly eager to get the ball rolling on a relationship, often wanting to make things official much sooner than women. Our study shows the image of male lotharios often doesn't hold true for online daters."

"But men are that bit more reserved when it comes to expressing or acting on the more serious stuff, even though their thoughts are usually in line with women's. They hold back on dropping the L-bomb or moving in together, even when they want to. Perhaps men should take a chance with their emotions every now and then, and make it happen for them?"
