It can often be difficult to think of an original date idea but what really matters is whether it is enjoyable rather than original.

Having a romantic night in really makes the date personal and allows you both to get to know each other.

Although it may not be ideal for a first date - you might want to get to know someone before inviting them into your house or visa-versa - it works really well as a date.

Now, you'll want to impress your date so how about cooking for them?

You don't need to be an amazing cook, just try something simple and stick to a recipe and you'll probably surprise yourself!

Find out what your date likes to eat and plan what you're going to cook from there.

It's always a good idea to give the meal a trial run so that if anything goes wrong, you can rectify it next time.

It also helps as if the meal is a little bland or needs changing a little bit, then you can improve it for the actual date.

Don't go OTT with the decor. Simply make sure you give your home a good tidy up and make sure everything is clean.

Leave the rose petals out of the equation for now, especially if it is only early on in the dating process - you don't want to scare them off!

Don't litter the room with candles either. Maybe one or two scented ones to make the room smell nice but candles spell presumption so don't go crazy with them.

So what about after dinner? Well it's entirely up to you. If the date has gone well so far then the chance is you'd like to spend more time with them.

Have a selection of films at the ready so you can cater to any taste. Keep a bottle of wine ready in the fridge and a snug blanket on the sofa and the night is yours!

This idea doesn't just work well for new couples, even if you've been married for years surprise them with this when they get home from work and they'll be over the moon.
