Rachel, 31, and Alan, 38, from Northern Ireland, had both ended their marriages and were close to giving up on love until they found each other on Plenty of Fish. Then just 21 days after meeting on New Year’s Day, they jetted off on holiday together and now they have been together a year and a half and live together. Here they share what was so special about each other's profiles...

“Strangely enough, it was a Curious George CD that started the conversation rolling. Rachel’s profile question was: “you can tell a lot about a person by the CD they have in their car, tell me what you have in yours”? It just so happened that I had the movie soundtrack of Curious George in my car. I never would have guessed that Curious George would play matchmaker but, as far as my relationship with Rachel goes, he was a good one. We both love music and since meeting each other, we have been to countless gigs together. We just hit it off immediately; the conversation was fun and we found that we had a lot in common. After a couple of weeks of chatting by message on Plenty of Fish, we met for the first time on New Year’s Day - even though we were both still a little delicate from the previous night’s celebrations. Our first date went so well and our conversations online continued to flow in real life. A year later, we celebrated our anniversary together at an amazing black-tie event at Titanic Belfast. Plenty of Fish definitely made meeting someone special so much easier and I would encourage anyone who is hesitant, to give it a try.”

“It was Alan that messaged me first, replying to the tag line I had and mentioning other things that I had said in my profile. I really liked the fact that he had taken the time to read my profile to find out a bit more about me before sending a message. I think that’s so much better than getting a simple "hi", because I felt like he was interested in me personally and not just messaging me as one of many on the site. From looking at his profile, we seemed to have really similar interests, so I was intrigued to know more about him. I was also curious to meet him because I thought he looked slightly different in every one of his photos! That's still something we laugh about today and it’s safe to say I was happy with the version of him that I met on our first date. Alan also seemed to fit "my type" of guy: he is tall, older as well as being into music and being outdoors. It was really good being able to find all that out before meeting up for a date because it saved either of us wasting our time and also provided a lot of good conversation starters. Conversation for us in the Plenty Of Fish app came easy, so it wasn't long before we exchanged numbers and went on a date. The rest is history and we are still going strong a year and eight months later.”
