Decide what you want in good time- Hangry partners have no patience for your indecisiveness when it comes to meal times. Pick what you want and say it out loud.

Have snacks on hand- By your couch, the bed, in your car, your bag- anywhere you can stash food so that if hanger strikes- you can reverse their mood quickly with some edible offerings.

Learn to recognise the signs- If a hanger attack is about to arise, look for signs of irritation (flaring of nostrils, deep breathing- things like that) and you might be able to nip it in the bud before it gets any worse.

Try to avoid the triggers- If you know they get hangry when they are stressed or frustrated- try not to be the person that causes their rise in blood pressure. If you sense someone else is awakening the beast- move them away ASAP.

Make sure any long drives have stops- You will need at least one stop per hour of driving in case you run out of car snacks and you need to replenish them.

Book tables in restaurants at quiet times- So you will get served quickly- if not- the atmosphere will be frosty to say the least. In fact, you might be better off always going for fast food instead.

Always carry tissues- If for whatever reason you can't feed them- have some tissues on your person for the inevitable tantrum and tears.

Be extra sensitive when your partner is dieting- This is when hanger will rear its ugly head the most- so don't say the wrong thing for heaven's sake.

Don't judge them if they eat more than they should while hangry- And don't ever, ever take food off them when you think they've had enough. They may eat you too.

Always greet them with a snack- Forget a cup of tea or coffee on its own- stock the cupboards with a selection of biscuits to accompany the beverage for the love of God.
