'He brought his own sandwiches to the date'- This would be perfect if your date was a picnic somewhere scenic, however if you're going out to eat, then surely you can wait?

You really should concentrate on your potential partner not your tummy at this time. It gives the impression that food is more important than all else for you so your date will feel second best to your appetite from the outset. Eat before you leave if you fear a rumbly tummy coming on.

'He greeted me with a kiss… on the neck!'- A kiss on the cheek may be acceptable- perhaps let them take the lead if you know you have no boundaries when it comes to PDAs. They might be more comfortable with a handshake or a hug so let them set the tone.

'He brought his mum along'- Being close to your family is generally a positive thing, it's a good indicator of how family oriented a date is if that is something you prioritise. However when you go on a date you expect there to be two of you- not a third wheel. The pressure of meeting parents should come later down the line when you feel serious about the relationship and one another.

'He took me to McDonald's' - Many people love to indulge in a Mc Donalds, however first dates are a chance to impress and do something out of the ordinary. You can go for a drive through once you've been together for a while and you want a cheeky treat. Try making a bigger effort than a Big Mac on your first outing.

'He spoke about gas boilers the whole way through'- It's good to share your passions on a first date so you can bond over similar ones and enlighten your date on things they might not know a lot about. BUT- don't make that your entire conversation- it's about give and take and having a balance to everything you talk about. There is nothing more off-putting than someone who fixates on one thing and isn't open to talking about anything else.
