Is weight affecting your relationship?

Gaining a pound or two can be easy when you start to get comfortable in a relationship. But according to weight loss expert Steve Miller, it’s a slippery slope from there.

He said: “When you’re with someone for a long time, you can turn a blind eye to them slowly gaining weight.

“But if you really care about them, you have to take action to stop them seriously affecting their health.

“Having one or both of you overweight can also be extremely detrimental to your relationship, arguments and frustration can often to lead to giving up on it all together.

“I am a firm believer in constructive fat shaming, it’s not bullying, and it’s potentially helping save their lives.”

Here are Steve’s ten reasons why having an overweight partner affects your relationship.

Sex

Sex in a relationship is always affected by fat. Enjoying a variety of sexual positions is often difficult but even more so if one of you isn’t feeling confident about their body.

Jealousy

The reality is if one partner is carrying more than few pounds the other usually has a wandering eye. The truth does hurt but very few people would choose a fat partner.

Laziness

Active leisure time starts to go out the window if partners become overweight. Energy levels drop and the excitement of adventure fizzles out.

Confidence

If one partner feels insecure about their weight, their confidence plummets. What follows is a lack of interest to go out socially because they feel self-conscious. This can be frustrating and cause arguments.

Respect

If a partner becomes fat there can be an immediate lack of respect from the other. They may see the other as lazy, unattractive, and incapable of achieving much in life.

Eating out

Eating out is an embarrassment if both partners have become fat as they can feel self-conscious and therefore prefer to stay at home. Candle lit meals at a romantic restaurant become a thing of the past.

Health

Obesity can mean serious health consequences. It can lead to strokes, heart disease and diabetes. It’s not worth it.

Comfort eating

Quite often, comfort eaters decide to munch on their feelings. If one is getting too fat then it can mean they put binge eating before discussing things with their partner. That partner will probably get frustrated and feel second best to a packet of biscuits, which may lead to a break up.

Affairs

A serious dilemma may soon begin if one partner becomes too obese. It may mean the other partner doesn’t want to be seen with their other half and choose have affairs on the side.

Early death

It may sound dramatic but being too fat can mean early funeral flowers, leaving the other partner alone. Avoid that one and intervene before it’s too late.
