Victoria asks :

How do I get rid of the safety blanket that is my ex? We both do it to each other. We broke up a while ago and have been with other people since, and we started talking again recently thinking we could be friends but we're failing as we still argue a lot, but after that dies down we just end up talking again. I know I don't love him so I think it is out of pure loneliness or routine or something but I'm now fed up and just want to cut the cord. Its too much drama and I think I might have found someone else but I don't want to get involved before I properly get rid of my ex. Please help me get rid of him, I delete him and block him but he finds a way to contact me and I end up getting bored and just replying.

Yin replies

If you have found someone else then you are ready to move on, but it sounds like he isn’t. If you are auguring when you start to talk again them the same problems are still there that were when you were together.

It likely is routine, you have a safety net in him because you have been there, you know how it goes and perhaps if things didn’t go so well with someone else he would still be there to talk to or perhaps more.

Yang replies

You need to be strong, don’t give in to boredom or loneliness by responding to him, tell him how you feel and that you want to stop all contact and stick to your guns. If you are giving in he will know that by being persistent he will eventually get a rise out of you.

Concentrate on your new man and stop worrying about what has been, the more you focus on the future, the less you will think about the past. He will get the message eventually and then you can finally move on for good.
