Helena asks :

 Hi Lucy,

How do I know if I'm a good person?

Our Reply

Hi Helena,

I would say that your gut instinct is your best compass for telling right or wrong. If something feels like it’s a bad thing to do then I would suggest avoiding it, if you know that what you are doing is right then perhaps keep doing it.

Some people believe being a good person is adhering to religious writings or following in the footsteps of their parents for instance, but the decision lies with you and is situation dependent. A good person ensures self-care- so they can then help others. If you are not happy in yourself then it is unlikely that you can pass that on to help others. It starts with you and extends outwardly to your friends and family and other people you might come into contact with in your life.

If you aim to treat other people as you would like to be treated, then that is the best advice I can really give anyone looking to seek if they are good. That way it will make you think twice before you act and consider the repercussions that something might have on you first. This, in turn will hopefully allow you to decide if that is how you wish to act towards another.
