Wendy asks :

Hi Lucy, I wish I could be happy. I wish my husband was still with us. I get so stressed about things.

Our Reply

Hi Wendy thanks for getting in touch.

It sounds like you need some help with things. Do you have a friend or family member that could help you out? By ‘us’ I presume that you mean you and your children? Could you ask someone close to look after your children for one night during the week so you can have some me time? Or some time just to get things sorted in the house or for yourself?

Doing things by yourself that you are used to sharing can be a daunting prospect, so why not visit your doctor to talk about your stress levels and see if they can recommend a course of action? Why not try and join a social circle that is designed for people who are going through the same as you are? You can talk to likeminded people and share common issues you are faced with in your new life.

If you don’t get help you could be putting yourself in vicious cycle. Your happiness will be greatly improved if you seek help to reduce your stress levels as stress can lead to imbalances of blood sugar, suppressed thyroid, high blood pressure, lowered immunity and being less able to think clearly. Try to help yourself avoid these problems by getting checked out.

If you don’t feel you need to see a professional then there are few things you can do to help yourself. Find out what your best time of day is, either during the day or at night then do all your productive activities at this time, as you will perform at your best.

Make lists of things you need to get done. This will help you organise your thoughts and give you a systematic sheet to work off to do the jobs that need doing.

Try to vary what you need to do in a day; monotony can get you down, so by changing things up this can help keep you engaged.

Try to modify what you need to do so you are not overwhelmed by too many tasks. If you do this you are only setting yourself up to fail so make sure that you are capable of getting stuff done with the time you have.

Good luck,

Lucy x
