We all know that Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, allegedly due to his plans for daughter Suri to join a school of Scientology, the Church that Tom is a part of. A survey has now revealed that most women would finish a man if they learned he was part of the cult.

The Church of Scientology was founded by L Ron Hubbard in 1953 and has continued to gain a mass following, including Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

Online bingo site, Dotty Bingo, polled 400 of its female members and asked them if they would be happy to date a member of The Church of Scientology and if it would affect their relationship.

A massive 78 per cent of women said that they would boot a man if they found out that he was part of the Church.

The remaining 22 per cent said they wouldn’t let a man’s faith in the Church become a barrier in their relationship.

A spokesperson from Dotty Bingo says, “The recent and very public split between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise has once again brought the secretive church of Scientology into the public arena.

“Many of its beliefs are clouded in mystery – perhaps it is this excitement of the unknown which attracted over a fifth of the women polled? Either that or they are imagining dating Tom Cruise.

“It is however, no surprise that the vast majority of women rejected the idea of dating a Scientologist; bending one’s habits to accommodate a partner’s religion is one thing, believing in spaceships and little green men on the other hand, is a completely different kettle of fish.”

One of the women surveyed thought that Scientology is just a cult based on money rather than a religion, and said she isn’t buying it.

She says, “They are all completely bonkers! Even if the guy was as good looking as Tom Cruise you would really have to ask yourself the question, is this person alright in the head?

“Also I really dislike the ‘pay to pray’ ethos which Scientology seems to be founded on. I would constantly feel like my partner is trying to convert me and part me with my cash.”

Some people believe that religion shouldn’t matter when it comes to your choice of partner.

One woman surveyed says, “Each to their own! We are living in the 21st Century for goodness sake – it would be wrong to refuse to date someone because of their religion, even if it does involve aliens.

“Perhaps someone could pass my number onto Tom Cruise now that he is back on the market?”

It seems that Katie made the right decision in getting out now, but some people still believe that religion should have little to do with a relationship. Surely if it includes aliens you should at least consider the persons sanity though, right?
