83% of women know what style suits them best and will not be swayed by their boyfriend or husband's suggestions.

Women trust their female friends more with suggestions than their partner- only 33% ask their lover what new look they think they should get.

If a woman was to come home with a hairstyle that their partner openly disliked very few would change it if they were happy with it.

On the flip side, men are more likely to ask for their partner's input before changing their usual style.

A whopping 57% would not go for a drastic change unless their partner believed it would look good.

That said, men have less of an awareness of what hair style makes them look good and trust their friends less for hair cut advice.

Both men and women were asked to choose their hair style icons over the years. Women opted for the likes of brunettes such as Cara Delevingne, the Duchess of Cambridge, Jennifer Aniston and Nigella Lawson.

Men on the other hand went for blondes; Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz and Elle Macpherson. Crown Clinic surgeon Asim Shahmalak said: "There is no doubt that men are much more likely to listen to their partner when changing their hairstyle or seeking a hair transplant. "I think this is because they are lot less confident of their style and many men genuinely think their woman knows best. Men understandably also want to look good for that special person in their life. "It is why we often see men coming to the clinic with their partners when they contemplating a transplant. The women often have very firm ideas on the style a man should adopt. "Women are much surer of their style and are less reluctant to be swayed by male persuasion when it comes to picking styles for their own hair." Dr Shahmalak commented on the polar opposite preferences of men and women in terms of their hair icons.

He said : "Men have a clear preference for blondes right through the ages whereas women tend to prefer dark hair and slightly more subtle styling."
