Alfons Leempoels, a retired doctor from Belgium, hopes to complete his 26.2-mile trek by the end of the month after being inspired by Captain Tom Moore, the war veteran who raised more than £30 million for NHS charities after completing laps of his garden.

Leempoels walks 10 laps of his own garden every day and throws a stick into a bowl after each circuit to make sure he doesn't lose count.

Leempoels took the decision to help raise money shortly after his granddaughter competed in a marathon.
