A speeding driver told police officers he travelled more than 100 miles in order to buy bread because it was cheaper in London.

The driver was travelling back to Nottingham on the M1 when he was stopped by officers, and he subsequently explained that he'd been to the UK capital because a loaf of bread was £1 cheaper there during the current lockdown.

Leicestershire Police confirmed that the motorist has already been handed two fixed penalty notices for the offence and he's also been reported to court for the speeding.

The courts are now set to decide the level of the fine the motorist will face.
