Mike Cormier, owner of the Ardmore Tea Room in Nova Scotia, explained how officers visited his restaurant last week after it had been reported that someone was dining indoors at the eatery and breaking COVID-19 rules.

Cormier told Global News: "The officer got out and was looking in the window, and I saw her looking at the mannequin."

He explained how he had confronted the officers who confirmed that the mannequin seated at the table had been mistaken for a human customer.

Police spokesman John MacLeod confirmed that officers had been called out to the restaurant after a report of "individuals not following public health directives".

He said: "Officers attended and found there were no issues or violations at that time."
